With CSAR/SIZING2, users can perform automated strength sizing of one-and two-dimensional finite elements of the structural model by the FullyStressed Design (FSD) procedure. The premise used in the FSD algorithm isthat the stress in each element is either at its prescribed maximum limitfor at least one loading condition or is at the minimum gage (area orthickness as the case may be). Engineers have long felt that designsbased on such a premise are close to the minimum weight of the structure.This procedure has been used extensively in both the preliminary andfinal design phases.
